The Demico Power Factor Transducer (PF) was designed to be used in a distribution substation with an RTU for a SCADA system. The PF monitors the power factor of a single phase circuit from - .75 to +.75. Since non unity power factor affects the amount of electricity used versus the amount that has been properly billed to the customer, it is necessary for a Utility to monitor and take corrective action when the power factor varies from unity very much. Some bulk buyers of electricity are penalized by the supplier when the power factor goes beyond their guidelines, because the reseller is not charging correctly when the power factor is not unity. The PF uses inputs of voltage and current, and can often share PT’s and CT’s that are already installed on the circuit. |
